A shallow cup and medium rim for extra endurance. Brilliant tone. The Yamaha approach to creating superior mouthpieces is to bring experience and technology together in perfect balance: experience in the form of continuous consultation with some of the world's leading artists – Yamaha has been producing special custom mouthpieces for top artists for decades – and technology in the form of precision computer-controlled machining equipment.

Yamaha employs and advanced computer-aided design and manufacturing system that ensures exact dimensions and contours in every single mouthpiece. Shaped cutters are not used because wear and re-sharpening rapidly alter the original shape. Instead, a computer-controlled lathe sculpts the spinning mouthpiece blank precisely to the specified size and shape. Continuous monitoring and a special cutter design guarantee that prescribed tolerances are always maintained. Another advantage of computer control is that a constant cutter-to-workpiece speed can be maintained relative to the position of the cutter. This ensures a perfect finish, eliminating the need for the final hand-polishing which could result in distortion and inconsistencies from mouthpiece to mouthpiece.

TRC 203 Case

All Yamaha cases are made of special plastic, or wood to provide a strong and durable outer shell. Our cases use riveted metal hinges and latches, which are very durable and easy to operate. They are much less prone to breakage compared to our competitor's molded hinges and latches.

Key of B-Flat (Bb)

The B flat (Bb) trumpet is commonly used in school bands, jazz bands and marching bands. There are two basic categories for trumpets Bb and C , they're both for general use ,but Bb is the standard key for trumpet used by students and professionals. The other key is C but trumpets in key of C are more specialized purpose trumpet. There are also higher pitched trumpets in D,Eb,E,F,G and A for orchestra or solo compositions that require high pitched sounds.

Bore ML: .459"

Bore size refers to the diameter of the tubing used to make your trumpet.
Typical bore sizes found in most standard trumpets range from the smaller .450 mm to the extra large .472 mm. The differences in sounds produced are pretty straight forward with the smaller the bore size creating a softer sound and larger bores producing louder, bolder sounds.

So what does that mean for you and your playing needs? Well, if you are a second or third chair, playing soft jazz or the trumpet is not a lead instrument in your ensemble, a smaller bore size will produce a softer tone that is best for playing music designed for these roles.

A smaller bore size means a softer sound, a larger bore sizes will produce more powerful and fuller tones that are perfect for lead chairs in ensembles, solo performances and a number of more classically inspired music styles where the trumpet is typically a lead instrument.

Bell Diameter: 4 7/8"

The part of the trumpet where the sound comes out of. Mostly made of brass and can either be lacquered in gold, which produces a more mellow sound, and silver-plated, which produces a brighter sound. It affects the projection of the trumpet's sound. A large bell will cause the sound to spread out more, while a small bell will cause the sound to spread out less.

With a large bell the sound is spread out so that a large number of people spread out in the audience will hear you at about the same loudness. With a small bell the sound is spread out less, so that audience members sitting directly in your line of fire will think you are loud, while audience members sitting off to either side will think you are less loud.

Small measurements range from 3.75" and the larger ones or modern sized are 4.5" to 5".

Lead Pipe: Gold Brass

The leadpipe is the first point of contact with the player after the mouthpiece and is therefore very important that component used is dependable. This is important as the leadpipe is the first place on the trumpet to corrode.

The lead pipe is the first eight inches of the tubing of a trumpet onto which is placed the mouthpiece receiver and the mouthpiece. Yamaha uses Gold Brass = 87.5% copper, 12.5% Gold Brass has less Zinc in it making it more resistant to corrosion and tarnish. Plus Gold Brass pipe offers warmer, more dense sound than the ordinary nickel which is used on a conventional pipe.

Body Material: Yellow Brass

Yellow Brass creates clear strong accurate sound projection. Yellow Brass = 70% copper, 30% zinc Yellow brass instruments have a robust sound that holds up well to loud, full tone.

It is also a very resilient material but do take good care of it to keep it in good condition.Gently remove any dirt, perspiration and fingerprints from the surface of the instrument with a clean cloth .Rub briskly to return finish to its fine luster.Keeping hands clean prior to playing & wiping off sweat and marks with just a clean dry cloth after play are useful tips to its preservation.

Bell Material: Yellow Brass, Pluzuma Welded Two-piece Bell

The conventional way of making the Bell part: They will start with flat sheet of brass then a flair is spun from a disc that is brazed onto the bell tail and then weld these two pieces together the manufacturer would overlap them creating a seam both visible to the eye and twice as thick preventing the metal from resonating properly.

Yamaha has overcome this problem with a technique called pluzuma welding whereby the two pieces of a trumpet bell are fused together rather than overlapped and welded. . Yamaha uses new technology for superior results and consistent uniform sound.Pluzuma is a technique whereby the two pieces are lazer fused together rather than overlapped and welded. The technique uses a high energy laser to fuse the sheets. The result is continues even vibrations in all registers.

Yamaha uses yellow brass . The sound produced with yellow brass is well balanced with a quick response.
Yellow brass” is an alloy that has 30% or higher zinc content. Normally 67% copper and 33% zinc.

Weight: Medium

Medium weight trumpets are 3.0 lbs.- light weights are around 2lbs. and the heavy weights are around 4.0 to 5 lbs.

Key Buttons: Plastic

Yamaha uses only top quality materials for their keys that are less susceptible to breakage. Though tough and sturdy avoid pulling the trumpet form the case through the keys, always hold the pipe and the bell when pulling the trumpet out of the case.Avoid exposure to excessive heat, cold, dryness, or moisture.

Your instrument is a valuable item and should be treated with respect.

Finish: Gold Epoxy Lacquer

Epoxy Laquer protects the metal from oxidation. It is the life of the Trumpet. Lacquer is much thicker than ordinary plating. Good lacquer is baked on, is as hard as glass and can actually double the thickness of the brass bell (the bell is lacquered on both inside and outside surfaces). It forms a coating that protects from oxidation, perspiration, sulfur and abrasion. It keeps the brass from elements helping it keep its shine and personality. It does not yellow or craze as some cellulose lacquer.

Mouthpiece: 11B4
A somewhat shallow cup and medium rim for extra endurance. Brilliant tone. Suitable for D, Eb , and piccolo trumpets.

Contour Semi-Flat
Thickness Standard
Cup Depth Semi-Shallow
Throat 3.65mm
Backbore Semi-Narrow

inner diameter 16.46 mm

Medium rim cups helps to get a vivid tone and easy to play.
Very practical for strenuous work and players with large lips.

Inner Diameter

In general, a small rim diameter makes it easier to play high notes and can increase endurance, but volume is limited. A larger rim diameter, on the other hand, provides plenty of volume and easy low tones but endurance may be sacrificed. The ideal rim diameter will depend on each player's physical traits, playing style, and musical requirements.

Since this is the part of the mouthpiece that comes into direct contact with the player's lips, it is a critical parameter for playing comfort. Rim contour also has a large effect on attack clarity. A majorlty of players prefer a relatively flat contour with the peak closer to the inner edge. This type of contour is generally considered to be the most stable, providing optimum contact with the rim bite.

Although a thick rim provides greater lip contact area for easy high notes and extended endurance, lip movement is limited so you lose tonal flexibility. A rim that is too thin offers plenty of control over a wide range, but can quickly cause fatigue. Beginning players are probably better off choosing a rim of medium thickness, but the best approach is to play a variety of types and choose the one that feels the most natural and plays the easiest.

The throat is the narrowest portion of the mouthpiece bore, and therefore the point of highest sound pressure. The size of this part of the mouthpiece have a major influence on playing resistance. A narrow, long throat produces high resistance which contributes to fast response, brilliant tone, and enhanced playability in the high register. A wide, short throat is more playable in the low register and is capable of producing greater volume - but requires lots of air from the player and can lead to fatigue.

Cup's depth. Shallow cups produce a brighter tone and are more controllable in the higher register at the expense of volume. Deep cups offer a dark tone, easy low notes, and plenty of power.

The "backbore" is the inner section of the mouthpiece bore which follows the throat. The backbore has a significant effect on pitch. The diameter of the backbore also influences timbre and resistance. A narrow backbore results in increased resistance, brighter tone, and easier playing in the high register. A larger backbore decreases resistance for darker tone and easier playing in the lower range.

Valves, valve casings and pistons control the pitch of musical notes produced by the trumpet.Different notes are produced by pressing the pistons.

The greatest difference in valves and pistons will be the material they are made of. Most student trumpets come with nickel-plated pistons because they are hard, durable, and tolerant to infrequent cleaning Nickel has a beautiful shiny, silver look and better resistance to the aggressive environment, volcanic regions and dessert areas). Unlike other materials it made to last and tarnish free.
