The Harmoniums are not meant to be played in concert like a mini organ. The reeds in the harmonium are tuned to sound well together, not necessarily with other instruments. This is instrument was introduced to India by the British. It has been embraced and is now a truly Indian instrument used as accompaniment in devotional songs. As with many Indian instruments the key for the music is selected to best suite the vocals, or to set a mood. Traditionally, Harmoniums are usually higher pitched if compared to the Western Scale. Harmonium tuning does not reflect the Western Scale and is not meant to.

DISCLAIMER: Shellac is very impressionable, no pun intended. During the long transportation from India the shellac finish becomes marred by the packing materials. These impressions are superficial and cosmetic. Impressions on the finish do not affect the playability or sound. Therefore we do not consider such impressions as blemishes or defects.
Chao Gong, 12", with beater; rich, full sound.  It has a very earthy, grounding character with well resolved tones, both low and high. The bull's-eye pattern of the chao gong is the result of grinding away the fire-darkened surface to reveal the bright brass color. Made in China.

This is an authentic gothic harp, designed by The Early Music Shop, U.K., from iconographical examples of the French Gothic Harps.  The body, arm and pillar are Rosewood and the soundboard is spruce.  There are 29 DupontT Nylon stings.  Unlike modern harps, the gothic harp is not strung from the back.  Each string is held into the soundboard by tension and a small button topped peg.   This is a non-standing lap harp with delicate lines.  The graceful arm and pillar are accented with fluid curves.  You will love this beauty.  40 inches long by 20 inches deep.  The base of the resonator is 5.25 inches wide by 2.25 inches deep. Tuning tool included.
