I'm happy with this instrument |

This is a basic, entry-level instrument, a little smaller than most dulcimers, but it will not dissappoint. The rosewood sides were a particularly pleasant surprise: a rich color not obvious in the photo. The hardware is a brush pewter color, so it does not outshine the overall matte finish appearance. The tuners are not top quality, but for the price, they do the job; the gears are a little tight at times.
I'm looking forward to replacing the factory strings that came with the instrument; I believe this will improve the sound quality. This dulcimer, while it does not possess the sound of a more expensively crafted instrument, has the lilt that one expects from a mountain lap dulcimer. For the money, a nice value. I gave it four stars for its price range, not compared to dulcimers in general.
The replacement strings that came in the package are not looped. You can do this yourself with any set of needlenose pliers.
