On a regular 10-hole diatonic, or Marine Band type harmonica, only 8 of the 20 notes (10 blow & 10 draw) can be bent a semitone or more.

By a system of patented valve chambers and auxiliary reeds, every note on the XB-40 can be bent a whole tone using standard note bending technique, making possible a complete chromatic scale.
