Hohner Corona II Flaco Jimenez Signature Accordion
Hohner, Inc. is proud to announce the new Flaco Jimenez Signature Accordion, celebrating the lifetime achievement and legacy of accordion legend Flaco Jimenez. The five-time Grammy Award winner has played Hohner accordions on more than 100 albums, spanning over five decades. Hohner wishes to honor this special relationship and inspire players all over the world with a signature accordion dedicated to Flaco's unique sound and rich musical heritage.
Hohner and Flaco Jimenez worked side by side to develop this new product which has been specially tuned to produce Flaco's unique signature sound. It includes specially tuned reed blocks to Flaco’s specifications, an updated bass strap, pearloid black buttons, and a unique gold finish – complete with Flaco’s signature.
“Hohner is especially proud of its relationship with the legendary Flaco Jimenez and we are very honored to bring his sound to the market. Flaco has maintained a special relationship with Hohner through the years and has showcased our accordions in his music. Flaco is truly one of America’s greatest musical treasures,” said Clayman Edwards, President of Hohner, Inc. This new Flaco Signature Accordion is an opportunity for players who were inspired by Flaco’s sound to acquire that sound for themselves in an effort to improve their own music interests.
Described by People Magazine as “a heavy weight in Texas-Mex (or Tejano) music,” Flaco won his first Grammy Award in 1986 for “Best Mexican-American Performance” for the re-make of his father’s song, “Ay Te Dejo En San Antonio.” He then teamed up with friends Freddy Fender, Doug Sahm and Augie Meyers to form the Tex-Mex super group The Texas Tornadoes, winning a Grammy for their debut release in 1990. In 1995, he won again for “Best Mexican-American/Tejano Music Performance” for his self-titled Artist Records solo endeavor. In 1998, Flaco earned two Grammy Awards: “Best Tejano Music Performance” for “Said and Done” and another for “Best Mexican-American Music Performance” as a part of super group Los Super Seven (with Joe Ely, Freddy Fender, David Hildalgo, Ruben Ramos, Cesar Rosas and Rick Trevino).
Virgin Records presented a Double Platinum Album Award to Flaco for his participation on the Rolling Stones’ Voodoo Lounge album which sold in excess of two million copies, just like the famous single “Streets of Bakersfield” with good friends Buck Owens and Dwight Yoakam. Flaco has also recorded with the legendary Bob Dylan and Ry Cooder and has received the "Lifetime Achievement Award" from Billboard Latin Magazine and Best Video at the Tejano Music Awards.
